What is your favourite Song in the show to perform?

It’s a toss up between I Want You, Back in the USSR and Birthday. I’m edging towards Back in the USSR.

What is your favourite Beatles song to listen to?

I’d have to go for She’s leaving home. It’s such a beautiful melody and the arrangement is amazing. It’s the perfect blend of Lennon melancholy and McCartney upbeat enthusiasm.

Favourite Beatles Album?

Abbey Road

Favourite early Beatles Song?

Eight days a week

How did you get into the Beatles?

My first interaction with the Beatles, I was 5 years old at my Mum’s 40th birthday party when my Dad and my Uncle Paul (Bass) played a couple of Beatles songs with a family band. I think they played ‘Something’ and ‘I feel fine’. I’ve always loved the solo in ‘Something’ so maybe its buried deep in my subconscious somewhere.

What other music/bands do you like?

Oh the range is wild. I love Rachmaninov to Steely Dan, Tool, Kendrick Lamar, Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver, Pink Floyd and Radiohead to name a few. I don’t hold any prejudice if its a good song I don’t care who sings it.

Who is your favourite Beatle?

Ringo

What gig has been your favourite so far?

They are all great but if I had to single one out I would say the Glasgow Pavillion gig. To go from the St Luke’s gig (which was phenomenal) and taking on the mammoth task of playing this music live, to selling out a 1200 seater historic Glasgow Theatre in the space of 12 months was validation that we are on the correct long and winding road. (See what I did there?)

Funniest off-stage moment with the band?

Has to be whilst loading the van on our way to the Gardyne Theatre. Paul Devlin nipped back home quickly to get a piano case. I phoned him to remind him to bring his Tuba as I wasn’t sure he’d loaded it. Upon phoning him I was met with a lot of confusion and hostility and an argument ensued. Turned out I had phoned the wrong Paul Devlin who I hadn’t seen for about 15 years and needless to say doesn’t even play the Tuba. We are all cool now though!
